About me
Tavoris M. Courtney is a Richmond, Virginia–based peer recovery professional and reentry advocate originally from San Bernardino, California. After graduating high school in 2001, he served in the United States Marine Corps. In 2008, Tavoris was incarcerated and ultimately served nearly 18 years in prison. During that time, his life took a transformative turn. In 2012, he committed himself to faith, education, and personal responsibility, pursuing studies in personal finance, economics, and computer literacy. He worked extensively in prison law libraries, assisting others with legal research, and later served as a peer mentor in a reentry program, helping prepare incarcerated men for successful reintegration into society. Encouraged by his mother, Tavoris became a Peer Recovery Specialist and has since developed recovery-focused programs aimed at financial literacy, personal growth, and community accountability. Now 42, he is dedicated to helping others build stable, violence-free, and purpose-driven lives.
